About this image compressor & converter

This is a straightforward image compressor: drop in a JPG, PNG or WebP, choose how much quality you're willing to trade, and get a much smaller file back. It uses the Canvas API built into your browser, which means there is no queue, no file size cap imposed by a server, and no upload — the images are read from your disk, re-encoded in memory, and handed straight back to you.

That matters for more than privacy. Because nothing travels over the network, a 40-photo batch finishes in the time a typical online converter would still be uploading the first file. It also works on a plane, on hotel Wi-Fi, or with your connection switched off entirely.

Typical results: a 4 MB phone photo lands around 400 KB at quality 80 with no visible difference on screen, and closer to 150 KB if you also cap the width at 1920px. Screenshots saved as PNG often shrink by 80–90% just by converting them to WebP.

How to use it

  2. 2Set the quality. 80 keeps photos looking identical to the eye while cutting most of the file size; drop lower for thumbnails, raise it for images where fine detail matters.
  3. 3Optionally resize. Most websites never display an image wider than 1920px, so capping the width there is usually the single biggest saving you can make.
  4. 4Pick an output format. WebP is the smallest for the web, JPEG is the safest for sharing and printing, PNG keeps transparency but stays lossless.

Which format should you pick?

WebP
The default choice for anything going on a website. It is 25–35% smaller than JPEG at matching quality, supports transparency, and every browser released in the last five years can display it.
JPEG
Use it when the file is going somewhere you don't control — an old CMS, a print shop, an email attachment, a marketplace listing. Nothing on earth fails to open a JPEG.
PNG
Only when you need pixel-perfect lossless output or transparency that must not be re-encoded: logos, icons, UI screenshots with sharp text. Photos saved as PNG are usually several times larger than they need to be.
Keep original
Re-encodes each file in the format it arrived in. Handy when you just want a batch made smaller without changing anything else about your workflow.

Is this image compressor really free?

Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many images you compress. There is no paid tier. If it saved you time you can buy me a coffee, but that is entirely optional.

Do my images get uploaded to a server?

No. Compression runs in your browser using the Canvas API, so your images never leave your device. You can prove it: open your browser devtools, switch to the Network tab, and compress an image — you will see zero upload requests. It even works with your Wi-Fi turned off.

Which image formats are supported?

You can compress JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF (first frame), BMP and AVIF, and export to WebP, JPEG or PNG. WebP usually gives the smallest file at the same visible quality, which makes it the best pick for websites.

How much quality will I lose?

At quality 80 most photos look identical to the original at a fraction of the size. Drop toward 60 for thumbnails, or push to 90+ when detail matters. The before/after sizes update as you drag the slider, so you can find the point where the file is small but the image still looks right.

Is there a file size or batch limit?

No hard limit — you are only bounded by your own device memory. Dozens of photos at a time is fine on a laptop; on an older phone, work in smaller batches. "Download all" bundles everything into a single ZIP, also built locally.
