About this qr code generator

A QR code generator with the two things most of them get wrong: the codes never expire, and nothing is tracked. Your data is encoded directly into the pattern, so scanning it goes straight to your link — not through a redirect on someone else's domain that can be counted, sold, or switched off when a free trial ends.

That distinction matters more than it sounds. "Dynamic" QR codes from marketing tools point at their server first. If that company folds, changes its pricing, or simply expires your free code, every poster and business card you printed stops working. A static code like the ones here cannot break, because there is no middleman in it.

Generation happens entirely in your browser, which means the Wi-Fi password you put in the form is never transmitted anywhere. Download as SVG for print or PNG at up to 2048px for screens.

How to use it

  1. 1Choose what the code should hold: a link, a piece of plain text, or Wi-Fi details that let a phone join your network by pointing its camera at the code.
  2. 2Type it in. The preview redraws as you go, so you always see exactly what you are about to download.
  3. 3Pick a colour and an error correction level. Anything destined for print deserves High or Highest — the code keeps scanning even when it is scuffed, folded or partly covered.
  4. 4Download. SVG is the right choice for posters, signs and business cards because it stays perfectly sharp at any size. PNG is easier to drop into a slide or a chat.

Making a code that actually scans

  • Print it big enough. A rough rule: the code should be at least a tenth of the distance it will be scanned from. Read at 2 metres, print it 20cm across.
  • Keep the quiet zone. The blank margin around the code is part of the code. Don't crop it or let artwork creep into it.
  • Keep the contrast dark-on-light. Scanners look for dark modules on a light background. An inverted code — light on dark — fails on many phones, so pick a deep colour rather than a pale one.
  • Shorter links make simpler codes. Less data means fewer, chunkier squares, which scan faster and survive worse printing.

Frequently asked questions

Do these QR codes ever expire?

Never. Your data is encoded directly into the pattern, so a scan goes straight to your link with no redirect through anyone else's server. Nothing can expire, be rate-limited, or stop working because a company changed its pricing. Print it once and it works forever.

Is it free, and can I use the codes commercially?

Free, unlimited, no sign-up, no watermark. Use the codes on products, packaging, posters, menus, business cards — anywhere you like. A QR code is just an encoding of your own data, so there is nothing here for me to license to you.

Am I being tracked, and are scans counted?

No to both. Because the code contains your link directly rather than pointing at a tracking redirect, there is nothing to count and no analytics dashboard behind it. The trade-off is real: if you need scan statistics, you need a dynamic code from a service that does track people.

Is it safe to put my Wi-Fi password in?

The code is built inside your browser, so the password is never transmitted anywhere. Do remember that the password is embedded in the image itself — anyone who can photograph the printed code can join your network, which is exactly the point for a guest network and a reason to be careful with your main one.

Should I download SVG or PNG?

SVG for anything printed — it is a vector, so it stays perfectly crisp at any size from a business card to a shop window. PNG for screens and for tools that will not accept an SVG, available here at 512, 1024 or 2048 pixels.

What does the error correction setting do?

It adds redundant data so the code still reads when part of it is damaged. Low keeps the code small and simple; Highest can lose about 30% of the pattern and still scan. Use Medium on screens, and High or Highest for anything that will be printed, folded or handled.
